Tree Removal & Replacement Program
Moon Lake Electric members are our top priority. That’s why we do everything we can to provide reliable, safe, and affordable power. As such, it is essential that we maintain the rights of way around our power lines and equipment. A rights-of-way (ROW) is the corridor we use to construct, maintain, replace, or repair underground and overhead power lines. ROW allows us to clear any potential hazards that could interrupt electrical service.
Maintaining our ROWs by trimming and removing trees benefits our membership in three distinct ways.
Safety:
Overgrown vegetation around electrical equipment presents a risk not only for our lineman working on the lines, but also our members. Trees that are touching or close to our power lines can act as conductors, potentially harming anyone on, or touching the tree.
Affordability:
By keeping the ROW around our lines clear, we can prevent unnecessary expenses. Repairing damaged equipment and fixing outages can be costly. As a member-owned co-op, we take the responsibility of keeping our rates low seriously.
Reliability:
Trimming and/or removing vegetation around our lines helps prevent outages caused by downed trees. This ensures that our power supply remains reliable and consistent.
Trees that pose a risk to our power lines will be removed at the cooperative's expense. The member will then be eligible for a reimbursement of $100 per tree, not to exceed six trees, whose height will not exceed 15 feet at full growth.
